The Australian Beach Erosion and Coastal Flooding Early Warning System was first funded by the Australian Research Council (LP170100161) between 2018 and 2023 with collaboration and additional support from project partners: Australian Bureau of Meteorology; NSW Department of Planning and Environment; WA Department of Transport; Northern Beaches Council, City of Mandurah, and the United States Geological Survey.

Expansion of the system to Victoria has been undertaken since 2024 funded by The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

Front end

This dashboard uses many open-source packages to map and display our forecasts. Key projects include:

• Django: A fully featured server-side web framework, written in Python.
• Leaflet.js: An open-source JavaScript library for mobile-friendly interactive maps
• WeatherLayers: High-performance interactive weather visualization layers and controls
• HighCharts: JavaScript charting library based on SVG rendering
